Cannot establish a connection

Symptoms of a connection issue include not being able to detect the printer, or being stuck in an unusually long update (longer than 1 minute). To debug a connection problem, try the following:

  • Disconnect all devices from your computer.
  • Use a different USB cable if available.
  • Restart the V-One software and power cycle the V-One.
  • Uninstall the V-One software and download the latest version from the website.

Ensure that the correct FTDI drivers are installed on your system and restart your computer.

OS X

Some versions of OS X (10.10 and earlier) are likely to have problems connecting to the V-One.

In OS X versions 10.9 (Mavericks) and 10.10 (Yosemite), Apple included a built-in FTDI VCP driver that does not fully support many FTDI devices. This driver is also difficult to work around with the FTDI-supplied drivers, and the official FTDI VCP driver may not work at all on these systems. However, the Apple-provided driver in OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) is comprehensive enough to work with most FTDI devices.

To ensure that your system is compatible with the V-One:

  • Upgrade your system to OS X 10.11 (El Capitan).
  • If you can't upgrade, follow the instructions supplied by FTDI to install the VCP drivers on your system. For OS X versions 10.9 (Mavericks) and 10.10 (Yosemite), this is not guaranteed to work.

Printer Disconnects When Baking or Reflowing

If the printer resets as soon as the heater is turned on, the likely cause is the wall outlet or power bar being used cannot handle the extra current draw required for the 550W heater. If you have multiple devices connected on one circuit outlet, consider disconnecting a device or moving the V-One to a different outlet.

Printer Does Not Move

If the printer is able to connect but it does not move, it may be damaged and need repair. Please contact us for assistance.

Unpacking your V-One

Once you’ve opened the box, remove the layers of foam one by one. Place them aside for now, and remove the V-One from the box. Avoid picking the V-One up by the bridge. Instead, use two hands and lift it from the base.

Assembly

The V-One comes with 2 identical dispensers for the 2 ink cartridges: conductive ink and solder paste. Now that you are familiar with the parts, you can start assembling the V-One dispensers.

Be sure the dispenser’s plunger is fully retracted before assembling. If the plunger is too far out it can push ink out during assembly.

  1. Remove the dispensing cap from the cartridge sheath. Remove the green lids from the conductive ink cartridge.
  2. Insert conductive ink cartridge into the sheath with the ink level visible through the viewing window.
  3. Twist the dispensing unit back into the cartridge sheath.
  4. Carefully twist the nozzle onto the end of the cartridge.
  5. The conductive ink cartridge is used in the video. The same procedure applies for assembling the solder paste dispenser.

Software Installation

Download the V-One software installer for your operating system. Open the file and install on your system.

Setting Up Your V-One

Find a spot for your V-One.

  • A flat, level surface with minimum vibration is optimal.
  • A well ventilated area is recommended.
  • Do not place the V-One on a surface that is susceptible to heat damage.
  • Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures – room temperature is ideal.

Connect your V-One.

  • Connect the USB cable to the V-One, then to your computer.
  • Connect the power cable to the V-One, then to an outlet.
  • Open the Voltera V-One software.

The V-One may require a firmware update on startup. Do not disconnect or turn off the V-One during the firmware update!
